05 Jun ART-727- FOOD THINK TANK FOUNDATION-
Interdisciplinary activities aimed at both education and experiencing wild food were the guiding principles of a group of artists, chefs and biologists who work as the “Food thin Thank” foundation operating in Poland, in Wrocław.
The result of their activities was a series of artistic installations. Among them was the installation “Forest” in 2015.
“Installation – Forest” – was the culmination of a year-long process of researching the forest. According to the creators, forests, covering 30 percent of the surface of Poland, are a space still untouched by humans, and contain many contents that can help rebuild human identity. They are also associated with the issue of obtaining food and respect for the product. FTT prepared a multisensory dinner for 32 people, which included tasting seven dishes and liqueurs and natural wines. There were no plates (with one exception) or cutlery. Guests were given white gloves. There were also no tables or chairs set – their place was taken by structures made of branches that resembled a campfire and stumps. The post-industrial space was filled with forest sounds and the aroma of the forest floor. A forest was created on the floor from portable wooden elements, designed and made by artists and craftsmen involved in the project. Food, made from products available in the forest, was placed on this wooden structure and had to be “hunted” by the participants themselves.
The creators themselves say the following about this exhibition:
We touched upon the important issue of obtaining food. About 90% of the products from which the chefs created the menu came from the forest. Each participant ate at their own “tree”, which grew before their eyes with each course. The difficulty of reaching for it also increased, especially at the last height of over two meters. The smell, sound and lighting also gradually changed. To reduce the comfort of the situation, we limited the tableware to a minimum. Guests had only one plate for all dishes and white gloves. In practice, however, most of them decided to use their own resources, eating with their hands. Together, we built a forest in a post-industrial building in the city center. The project took place in October 2015.
